Prerequisites:

  • Install AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT  2005 and above, or Autodesk DWG TrueView 2007
  • Install Bluebeam PDF Revu Standard or CAD Edition 5.5.0 and above.

Assumptions:

The instructions are geared towards all drawings that have the same paper size. However, the procedure can be adapted to cover multiple paper sizes.

It is assumed that the desired paper size(s) are already included in the Bluebeam PDF Printer. For instructions on adding custom paper sizes, click here.

  1. Create a blank DWG file for plotter configuration.
    • Launch AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT 2005 or above.
    • Click on the Layout 1 tab.
    • Select Page Setup Manager from the File menu.
    • Click New.
    • Name the page setup according to the intended page size (e.g., ANSI-D).
    • On the Page setup dialog, set the following:
      • Select the Bluebeam PDF printer next to Plotter Name.
      • Select the intended Paper Size.
      • Select Extents under What to Plot.
      • Fill the Center the plot check box.
      • Change other settings if desired.
      • Click OK, then Close.
    • Save the file, then exit AutoCAD.
    • Repeat the steps above if multiple paper sizes are needed.

  2. Prepare the Bluebeam PDF printer.
    • Launch the Bluebeam Administrator (from Start -> Programs -> Bluebeam Software).
    • Click the Printer tab.
    • Clear the Prompt for filename check box.
    • Clear the Open in viewer check box if you are creating a large number of PDF files.

  4. Setup Publish.
    • Launch AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT or DWG TrueView.
    • Open any .DWG file.
    • Select Publish from the File menu.
    • Click Plotter named in page setup under Publish to.
    • Clear the Model tab check box under Include when adding sheets.
    • Click the Add Sheets button to add drawing sheets.
      • Note: CTRL-A can select an entire folder's drawings.
    • You may wish to delete the sheets names from the opened drawing.
    • Press CTRL-A to select all sheet names.
    • Click one of the list boxes under Page Setup, and select Import.
    • Import the blank drawing file which you created in step 1.
    • Select the imported page setup.
    • You may wish to save the sheet list at this time.

  5. Click Publish to start the PDF creation.

 

If you want to create a single multipage PDF file that contains all of the sheets in the Publish List:

  • Complete Steps 1 and 2.
  • Launch Bluebeam Stapler (from Start -> Programs -> Bluebeam Software).
  • Open the Settings dialog from the Edit menu.
    • Fill the Bind Print Jobs check box.
    • Clear the Filename Prompt check box.
    • Clear the Open in Viewer. check box.
  • Minimize Bluebeam Stapler (do not close the Stapler).
  • Complete Steps 3 and 4.
  • Return to the Bluebeam Stapler. The layouts will be listed Stapler.
  • Click the Staple button to create the PDF file.

 

Additional Notes:

  • You may need to adjust some of the conversion parameters found on the Save As window. For instance, if the PDFs are not rotated correctly, you may need to switch from Auto to 90.
  • You may wish to change the output folder. The Default Output Folder can be defined in the Bluebeam Administrator and the Stapler.
    • Stapler: Click Settings on the Edit menu of the Stapler
    • Administrator: Click the Printer tab.
