What is 64-bit?

Most modern computers are 32-bit. However many firms, especially within the AEC industry, are migrating users to 64-bit computers. Why? Because 64-bit computers can support more RAM and process more bits of information than the standard, 32-bit computer. If you create large, detailed CAD drawings with high resolution images, a 64-bit computer might help you work faster and more efficiently.

64-bit computers must run on a compatible operating system, Windows® XP x64 or Vista x64, and also require applications designed to run in a 64-bit environment, such as AutoCAD® 2008 x64 and SolidWorks® 2007 x64. In response to customer requests, Bluebeam released a 64-bit compatible version of Bluebeam PDF Revu in August.

Who should install Bluebeam's 64-bit version?

Only Bluebeam users who are running Windows XP x64 or Windows Vista x64 should install the 64-bit version of Bluebeam PDF Revu. If you aren't sure what operating system is installed on your computer, check by right clicking on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and selecting "Properties". The "General" tab will display your computer's operating system.

If you do have a 64-bit operating system, Bluebeam PDF Revu CAD Edition 64-bit version will install Bluebeam plug-ins in 64-bit versions of AutoCAD 2008 and SolidWorks 2006-2007. Bluebeam PDF Revu, the Bluebeam PDF printer, and Bluebeam Stapler will also be installed.

The Bluebeam plug-ins will not function in Microsoft Office, 32-bit versions of AutoCAD or AutoCAD verticals; these applications are not 64-bit applications. Use the Bluebeam PDF printer in the Windows Printer list to create PDFs from these applications.

Downloading and Installing Bluebeam's 64-bit version

  • The 64-bit compatible version of Bluebeam PDF Revu is a separate installation file. The download links for these files are distinguished by the words "64-bit" in parenthesis. If you meet the requirements above, you can install Bluebeam's 64-bit compatible version. Current version 5 users can go to the Bluebeam Support page to download this update.

  • Customers with an older license of Bluebeam who are on maintenance may upgrade to version 5.5.2 for free. Contact upgrade@bluebeam.com and provide your current serial number in order to receive your new version 5.5.2 license certificate.
