will present high tech equipment to Philadelphia's School of the Future during a press conference with
school officials on May 16 at 4:00 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The donated technology's
estimated worth is over $150,000. The donation and program will occur as part of the AIIM & ON DEMAND
Conference and Exposition, the nation's largest IT event in North America, taking place May 15-18, 2006.
"On behalf of the City of Philadelphia, I would like to thank the AIIM & ON DEMAND Expos and its exhibitors
for investing in our school children," said Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street. "Giving young people an
opportunity to learn using the most innovative technology will ultimately enrich their lives forever."
Paul G. Vallas, Chief Executive Officer for the School District of Philadelphia and Shirley Grover, Principal
and Chief Learner of the School of the Future, will be in attendance to receive the donations from the
exhibitors. Donations include much needed software, printers, scanners and other equipment. The donation is
part of the AIIM and ON DEMAND Expos' commitment to education and desire to leave a lasting tribute with the
city of Philadelphia.
"On behalf of all the contributing exhibitors at this year's expos, we are excited to equip Philadelphia's
School of the Future with the most innovative software and hardware," said Kerry Gumas, President and Chief
Executive Officer, Questex Media Group, Inc., producer of AIIM and ON DEMAND Expos. "We believe that education
is the responsibility of the entire community, including corporate citizens. We hope that through these
donations, students can experience the power of technology."
"We are honored that these fine businesses would want to support our children and enhance their education
with these generous donations," said James E. Nevels, Chairman of the School Reform Commission of the School
District of Philadelphia.
"Corporate support of public education is key to building innovative schools like the School of the Future,"
said Mr. Vallas. "Access to the best in class technology will allow our students to get excited about their
future, and fuel their learning for years to come."
The School of the Future is a collaborative partnership between the School District of Philadelphia and
Microsoft Corporation. The 160,000 square foot School of the Future is designated as a grades 9-12
demonstration high school with capacity to enroll 800 students. The building will include 20 general
classrooms, five science rooms, an art room, instrumental and vocal music rooms, special educations spaces,
a weight and fitness center and two gymnasiums.
"A key to helping today's generation of learners realize their full potential is empowering our teachers,
students and all involved in the learning process, to use 21st century tools and resources creatively," said
Mary Cullinane, Group Manager, United States Partners in Learning, Microsoft Corporation. "With one-third of
our nation's students not graduating on time, creating better learning environments is critical to re-engaging
students and preparing for their future."
During the event, special features of the School of the Future, including its Interactive Learning Center,
food court, outdoor amphitheater and Performing Arts Center with auditorium, were shown through a model of
the school.
Each year, the AIIM & ON DEMAND Expos give back to the local community by participating in a local
educational-related charity. This year, the Expos are partnering with Philadelphia's School of the Future.
The School of the Future, scheduled to open in the fall of 2006, will stand as a monument to Philadelphia's
ambition for the future of its children.
