PDFzone praises Bluebeam Lite, Bluebeam Software's newest PDF solution
Bluebeam Lite creates PDFs from AutoCAD LT, Microsoft Office apps
By Don Fluckinger
Bluebeam Lite, a new plug-in package from Bluebeam that works with the
"lighter" AutoCAD LT platform, also happens to include plug-ins for Microsoft
Office applications that put buttons for PDF creation in the toolbars of Word,
Excel and PowerPoint.
The company didn’t intend to make Bluebeam Lite something that the average
desktop user might consider buying. Bluebeam’s intention, said President and
CEO Richard Lee, was to give its core user base of engineers what they need to
add ancillary materials they often create in Microsoft applications to their
PDFs of AutoCAD files.
But at the $99 price point, office users who can’t afford Acrobat Pro might
give it a second look.
"It’s not a primary focus, " Lee said. "However, this product, because it has
the Office plug-ins--even if [buyers] aren’t CAD users--they can go ahead and
buy Bluebeam Lite and create PDFs right out of Office and not even use the CAD
functionality."
Lee said this--his company really isn’t trying to expand into the desktop
market and its hundreds of millions of potential Bluebeam Lite users--utterly
without a wink and a nod: He really does feel his Bluebeam’s success lies in
the CAD market.
